    Examples:
Adjacency Multiple words are not searched as a phrase; they are AND-ed together. To search for an exact phrase, enclose your search string in quote marks.
Note: If your search string contains any of these words: AND, OR, AND NOT, BEFORE, AFTER, NEAR, or WITHIN, put quote marks around the string, or it will not be searched as a phrase.

Operators

Use AND or OR to specify multiple words in any field and in any order.
Use AND NOT to exclude words.
Parentheses group words together when using Boolean operators.

  Use NEAR to retrieve records that contain the specified words or phrases within ten words of each other in the same indexed field.
Use BEFORE and AFTER to retrieve records that contain the specified words or phrases in a particular order in the record. Any number of words can appear between the specified words or phrases.
Use WITHIN to specify the maximum number of words that may appear between the specified words.

Ranked Results
About Keyword search results are ranked by relevancy. This is intended to bring the best results to the top.
Results will appear in up to 5 groups. Each group is ordered by date by default.
To deactivate ranked results, select: Author, Title, Subject, or Note from the Any Field drop down menu OR enclose your search string in quote marks OR sort your ranked results by Date or Title.
Most relevant The search string appears in the title proper.
Highly relevant The search string appears in the subtitle.
Very relevant The search string appears in contents, summary, or note fields or subject or other added heading fields.
Relevant The Boolean AND pulls words from the search string in the title proper and/or subtitle.
Other relevant The Boolean AND pulls words from the search string from anywhere else in the record.
Material Type
Book Monographic nonmanuscript language material, microforms of monographic nonmanuscript language material, and essentially textual monographic electronic resources (e.g., books, pamphlets, technical reports).
Journal Serial nonmanuscript language material, microforms of serial nonmanuscript language material, and essentially textual serial electronic resources (e.g., periodicals, magazines, newspapers).
Video/Film Media intended for projection (e.g., filmstrips, motion pictures, slides, videorecordings).
Music Score Printed music material, microform and electronic notated music (e.g., full score, choirs score, books of musical studies and exercises).
Manuscript Score Manuscript music, microforms of manuscript music, and score theses.
Music Recording Musical sound recording (e.g., orchestral performances).
Spoken Recording Nonmusical sound recording (e.g., spoken word, aerobic workout exercise recordings over musical accompaniment.)
Electronic Resource Computer file (e.g., computer software (including programs, games, and fonts), numeric data, computer-oriented multimedia, online systems or services). Important note: do not select this material type if the significant aspect of the content of the item is any other type (e.g., language material, sound recording, videorecording); select that type instead.
Cartographic Material Nonmanuscript maps, globes, atlases, aeronautical charts, navigational charts, celestial charts, remote-sensing images, computer-generated maps, and microforms of nonmanuscript cartographic material.
Manuscript Map Manuscript cartographic materials, microforms of manuscript cartographic materials, and map theses.
2-D Graphic Two-dimensional nonprojectable graphic (e.g., cards, charts, drawings, posters, reproductions of any of these).
Kit Mixtures of various components issued as a unit and intended primarily for instructional purposes. No one component is identifiable as the predominant component (e.g., set of K-12 social studies curriculum material, package of educational test materials).
Mixed Material Materials in two or more forms that are usually related by virtue of their having been accumulated by or about a person or body. The intended primary purpose is other than for instructional purposes (i.e., unlike "Kit"). This category includes archival fonds and manuscript collections of mixed forms of materials, such as text, photographs, and sound recordings.
3-D Object Three-dimensional artifact or naturally occurring object (e.g., models, games, puzzles, sculptures).
Manuscript Material Handwritten or unpublished "single-instance" items (e.g., handwritten or typed letter, galley proof, dissertation).
